Ligand-Gated Ion Channels

The LGICs open in response to specific ligand binding to the extracellular domain of the receptor. Ligand binding induces a conformational change causing the channel gate to open and allow ion flux across the plasma membrane. LGICs include the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, ionotropic glutamate receptors, P2X receptors, and GABAA receptor.

Binding Assays
For nonfunctional but fast screening the radioligand binding assays were developed to identify compounds which may interact with electrophysiology activity in a cost-effective way.
